Hi.

Are you after a digital presence that shines, but don’t know where to start?

Well, hello. You’re in the right place.

Headshot of Mel Barren on an orange background. She is wearing glasses, smiling and wearing a red and white stripy top just like Where's Wally.

Crafting top-notch copy that speaks to your tribe and building stand-out websites is hard, man. Get it wrong, and potential clients will vanish without a backward glance. Phff.

I’m here to sculpt you a gleaming message in a world of paper-thin attention spans and complex algorithms that arrogantly decide where you fit.

It's like they don’t even know how brilliant you are

Just a freelancer, standing in front of a potential client, hoping they’ll hire her.

I’m Mel Barren. Delighted to meet you.

We’ve all done psychometric and personality tests, right?

For me, the results show that work needs meaning. For you, this means I’m unafraid to explore the core reason you’re in business so I can convey it in words, pixels and creativity.

This keeps things real and genuine.

And that, my friend, sells because people see through bullshit. Win-win.

I wanna hold your hand.

When you work with me, it's an exploratory and deeply collaborative process. Tea is drunk, thoughts are thunk.

Content and design evolve until we end up with a crystal clear story about your business or project. I dig deep.

Beyond the core work, we might create your dream customer profile, play around with colour palettes, scrutinise keywords and develop your distinct tone of voice. Whatever it takes, I’m with you all the way.

Proceed if you really want my life story. Otherwise, stop now, click the link and let’s talk about you!

Mel’s process is smooth from start to finish, and I now have a beautiful, user-friendly website. I definitely recommend Mel to anyone hoping to achieve their website dreams.
— Samantha Bush-Nelson
Mel designed and created 8 training courses for me from scratch. She had a brief to make them interactive, short, incredibly interesting, well-researched and in a story format. Mel over-delivered by a country mile and they continue to grab the attention of the attendees every day.

One of the things Mel helped me with was to create my dream client persona and it’s like “Kate and Andrew” became real to me. I started to speak to them in my comms, and within a week, I had a real Kate and Andrew on my books and then another and another. I love Mel’s processes and experience, and highly recommend you work with her.

A Brief History Of Mel.

  • Despite a largely uninspiring education, I had an inspirational English teacher. I fell in love with words, storytelling and creative writing. Head over heels.

Fast forward into the real world, I've been self-employed or a business owner for most of my working life. That means I got my fingers stuck in to many of the pies in my businesses, including branding, sales and writing. Even the driest stuff deserves to be well-written, and developing a cohesive tone of voice is a crucial facet of branding, so I honed my writing, studied like a demon and published.

I did some maths (also learned at my uninspiring school) and I reckon, roughly 35,000,000 of my written words are out there, in the ether, give or take a few.

    And now, here I am.

  • I didn't know I was techy until I got into the tech industry many years ago…and was blown away. It was the way layers, elements, and code merged in just the right order to make a complete working, moving, shiny thing. Beautiful.

Long story short, I became an app entrepreneur. Those were high-octane, fantastic years, plus I also got to work with genius-clever people. Along the way, I had to get ‘hands-on’ and discovered the joy in building landing pages, websites, a little light coding and mobile app wireframes. My creativity served me well and knitted nicely with the tech, especially web and app front-end design.

    And now, here I am.

  • When you hire a creative, you hire more than the hours they’re sat in front of a screen. You get their strange thought processes: the ideas that wash in as they open their eyes in the morning or the random inspiration that hits them in the supermarket.

You hire them to stare at blank screens until the magic happens. Yes, really.

Then the hard work, technical ability, and experience kick in…and hiring this magic combo will set you apart from your competitors.

And so, here we are, you and me.

Ok, that’s enough about me. Tell me about you.
