Wordy Girl Design website homepage with orange background and white text

Websites for
small businesses.

Uncomplicated.
Refreshingly Individual.

Your website represents more than just sales.
Your values, intentions and individuality are on show to the world, so every word, colour, font, image and button matters.

Pow.
You have one chance to make an impactful first impression.

Large or small, a cleverly crafted site speaks your truth. In a split second, people decide whether to stick around. I’ll nail all the elements your website needs to keep people scrolling, clicking and buying.

Beautiful websites without the fuss. Easy peasy.

Small Brands, Big Leaps

It's a huge deal to level up your business or launch a new one. I know. I've done it. Whatever stage you're at, I’ll be in your corner, making your website glow with style, design and content you can be proud of.

Commitment Phobic Web Dev.

I create stunning sites without tying you up in contractual knots, leaving you free to make choices in the future.

Our only tie is a
beautiful working relationship.
No retainers. No lifelong contracts. No fuss.

The Process.

I build using Squarespace or Wix. These colossal platforms come with a bunch of benefits: funky features, secure hosting and slick editing.

A Little Hand Holding + A Lot Of Transparency.

Some of my clients know their way around the backend of a website and others are overwhelmed by the whole thing. Fear not. I tread gently, explaining the entire process. I’ll even help set up your email or Etsy, or guide you through social media marketing.

What About…The Future?

Once your site launches, I hand the passwords over to you, and then you own it, baby! But…

You Da Boss.

You can still book me anytime to dive in and do 'stuff' so you're not left high and dry if website editing isn't your bag.

If you do want to perform some website DIY, you have the glorious autonomy to do just that. I'll even teach you some basics!

Web Hygiene and Regular Audits.

Regular audits are necessary and common sense. We need to check your web and mobile SEO, loading speeds and design have not become outdated or broken. Google masterfully de-prioritise underperforming sites and it’s a race to keep up.

I’ll remind you when an audit is due and you can book me to sweep ‘n’ fix.

Now, isn't that refreshing?

Website Examples

Horticulture & Gardening : 5 pages + sub-pages.

This company's niche is sustainable gardening for clients who cherish their outdoor spaces. With deliberate language and design, this website intentionally positions the company well away from maintenance or contract gardeners.

It's a quiet website with a gentleness that reflects the founder's approach to life, business and the natural world.

High-end Wellness : 9 pages + booking integration.

A secret wellness retreat in a private woodland: Large blocks of black and an aesthetic hinting at ancient spirituality build mystery. Gliding through the site, you travel deeper into the experience. Elements moves peacefully: images wistfully fade in and headings gently slide into place.

It is exquisitely poetic, glossy and intriguing.

Psychotherapy & Counselling : 8 pages + multiple sub-pages.

Everything about this site is elegant and reassuring. It respects the line therapists tread concerning over-promising on outcomes, so there's nothing overtly 'salesly' or shouty. We went all-out to provide plenty of skim-friendly info and answers.

The result is a website exuding professional integrity.

Business Services: mini-site, 3 pages.

This Virtual Assistant efficiently magics time out of thin air for her clients, with a liberal sprinkling of warmth and humour. One of her testimonials says, "Everyone needs an Anne in their lives". If you met her, you'd agree. The design and branding aligns with her character, and the unfussy 3-page architecture delivers all the information needed.

This little website is refreshingly bright, organised and playful, just like Anne.

Cartoonist & Illustrator : 2 galleries.

Ok, brace yourself for some shameless self-promotion, but I want to show you this site. I am also an artist and have this small website to prove it. For the record, I hate it when I am both the client and the web designer because my when I’m the client, I’m an utter pain in the arse.

The design brief was for a personality-driven website reflective of [my] artistic style and humour. It goes without saying that the client is blown-away happy.

Website Services

Read (here) about how it all works. If you like what you see, we should talk.

  • Before work begins, you and I will talk. We'll explore what drives you; we'll create a persona of your perfect client; you'll tell me your goals and dreams.

I am in love with the 'discovery phase' because, without it, there's just aping some other business's site. If we want mediocrity, I could find a website template and copy-paste your name onto it. And who wants that? Not me, and not you.

I use my creativity and years of business experience to bring your goals and website together in a holy union which speaks to your people.

  • The pages of your website form a fluid story with nudges to click buttons, discover more, buy, or sign up. The content should flow, reassuring people they're on the right website, right page. Beautiful, huh?

There's an art to strategising and creating a seamless story. The moment your website reaches a flow state is palpable, and utter bliss.

Let me help. Making you and your business look great is what gets me out of bed in the morning.

  • Straight up, I am not interested in hosting your website or having you pay me a monthly maintenance retainer. I run this show, and if I run away to live off-grid in a teepee, you're royally screwed.

Scarily, a sizeable chunk of my business comes from clients whose relationship with their retained web developer has soured. So, let's do it this way: I'll build you a stunning Squarespace or Wix website, and they'll host it for you.

I'll give you all the passwords and teach you what you need to know, but once it’s launched, you own it. Baby, it's yours.

However…you’re not left high n dry. You can appoint me as an admin on the website, and I can dive in and work for you whenever you need me. That way, we're connected because we want to be.

    It's modern.
    And fair.
    And how I roll.

If a no-strings relationship appeals, let's talk. No obligation, naturally.

  • I like business to be transparent. For example, ‘feature creep’: if new features and additions are proposed after a project has started, I'll let you know the cost implications so you can make decisions. In a nutshell, I won't hit you with out-of-quote-out-scope surprises.
